[Correspondence] The Year of Neglected Cardiac Diseases
Abstract
Cardiovascular disease killed 19·1 million people in 2023, accounting for nearly one in three deaths worldwide, and the annual number is still rising.1 Investment has transformed outcomes for coronary disease, heart failure, and hypertension. Yet that progress has been rationed. Of more than 600 million people living with cardiovascular disease, an estimated 100 million, about one in six, live with conditions readily treated in high-income countries but still killing children and young adults elsewhere (appendix).
