[Correspondence] Towards a globally relevant sepsis agenda: the role of HIV

Abstract

We read with interest the Seminar by Mervyn Singer and colleagues,1 which highlights advances and ongoing challenges in sepsis pathobiology and therapeutics. The authors discuss immunosuppression as a key modifier of sepsis risk, clinical presentation, and outcomes, particularly among individuals with organ transplantation, autoimmune disease, and malignancy.1 However, despite being a major determinant of sepsis epidemiology and outcomes in high-burden settings, HIV co-infection is left unmentioned.
