[Comment] The central role of primary care in liver health
Abstract
An estimated 2 million individuals die from liver disease every year.1 Progress towards reducing morbidity and mortality due to viral hepatitis has stalled.2 And the burden of liver disease related to alcohol use and metabolic dysfunction is growing. Recent data, for instance, suggest that an estimated 1·3 billion people were living with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease in 2023, a total that is predicted to rise to 1·8 billion by 2050.3
