[Correspondence] Ethics laundering and Cuba's health myth
Abstract
Joe Parkin Daniels’ World Report1 rightly documents the worsening crisis in Cuban health care, but the crisis should not be read mainly through the regime's preferred explanation of external constraint. I am troubled that Cuba's health crisis is still described without naming with equal clarity the power that produced the country's structural vulnerability, administered it, and converted it into political alibi. The US embargo has served the regime mostly as a rhetorical shield: a real but partial external constraint inflated into a total explanation for a ruin whose core is internal.
