[Comment] Marketing of supplements to people with ADHD reinforces stigma

Abstract

The global prevalence of ADHD is around 2–5% in adults, with stimulant medications remaining the cornerstone of treatment.1 Randomised controlled trials and meta-analyses have shown that stimulant medications, such as methylphenidate and amphetamine formulations, improve attention, impulse control, and functional outcomes for most ADHD patients.2 Indeed, stimulant medications are widely regarded among the most effective treatments in psychiatry.2,3 Despite this robust evidence base, in the USA, a range of dietary supplements is being marketed specifically to individuals who take ADHD stimulant medications.
